Vectorworks: This menu command is not authorised for use in this product

Vectorworks users seeing the error "This menu command is not authorised for use in this product" are likely to be running Vectorworks Fundamentals. The error indicates that the menu option is available only for higher versions of Vectorworks (eg. Architect, Spotlight, Landmark or Design Suite).

The error is usually caused when trying to access a feature of the 'Navigation Palette'; this palette is not available in Fundamentals. The Navigation Palette is a handy UI which brings key elements like Design Layers, Sheet Layers and Classes into one location. However, these are all accessible from other parts of Vectorworks in Fundamentals.

For example, Design Layers can be accessed from the menu bar at the top of the window:

This, in turn, opens the Organisation palette - where layers and classes can be managed.
