V-Ray for Cinema 4D Installation

V-Ray for Cinema 4D Installation

Download the relevant files and installers and ensure you have the ability to run these as Administrator.
Note: There is a difference between having admin privileges and running the installers as administrator by right clicking for Windows.

Ensure Cinema 4D has been opened at least once before installing V-Ray.

  1. To start, right click and 'run as administrator' the V-Ray installer.
  2. Go through the on screen popups and select Advanced

The next pages will have a few options, select what is most relevant to yourself
  1. Workstation – A full installation that includes V-Ray for Cinema 4D, IPR for Cinema 4D, V-Ray Standalone, V-Ray Tools.
  2. Standalone – An installation that includes V-Ray Standalone and IPR render server. Please choose this option if you plan to use this machine only for Distributed Rendering with V-Ray Standalone and an IPR render server.

  3. Add firewall exception –  Enabling this option allows the default licensing port (TCP 30304) in the firewall. If you disable it at this step, you will need to manually add firewall exceptions later.

  4. Install Chaos Scatter – Enable this checkbox to install the Chaos Scatter plugin for Cinema 4D. Chaos Scatter is a powerful instancing tool that allows you to populate large scenes without reducing performance. See more information on the Chaos Scatter page.

Then continue through the on screen popups with most users able to leave the default options as they are and finally, install.

During this process you should be asked to log into the Chaos licence server but if not or if you need to get back to that screen for any reason head to http://localhost:30304/

To start using V-Ray as your render engine simply change the setting from the drop down box by 'Renderer'.
