Using a Single Plugin (eg. V-Ray for C4D) with a Cinema4D Multi/Floating License

Using a Single Plugin (eg. V-Ray for C4D) with a Cinema4D Multi/Floating License

For organisations that require multiple copies of Cinema4D, yet only require an individual plugin, it may prove difficult to match the allocated serial to the one linked to the plugin. In this scenario, please try the following workaround/set up:

  • In the Cinema4D License Server, create two groups - one for the plugin user, one for the other users
  • Assign the workstation where the plugin is installed to a specific group
  • Assign other users to the other group
  • Using 'Preferred Serials', allocate the serial that is linked to the plugin to the specific group with the single user
  • When C4D boots on the machine with the plugin, it should be allocated the same serial each time.

Full documentation for this can be found here:

Cinema 4D License Server PDF Manual - Groups, page 9

One side-affect of this process is restricting the availabilty of the plugin-linked serial to other machines. Review and configure your license server to best suit your organisation's requirements.
