Unable to Launch Browser to Log In to SketchUp

SketchUp Pro - Unable to Launch Browser to Log In

We have recently received a few reports of SketchUp users being unable to log in to their software, resulting in them not being able to access files or create new ones.
Affected users report that when clicking 'Sign In' within the SketchUp application, the web browser does not launch.

First thing to try would be changing the default browser as well as clearing the cookies and cached data on the browser.

Next we can try doing a complete reset of the sign in state by deleting the login_session.dat file.
  • For Mac users, locate the login_session.dat file in your hidden Library folder inside of your user area. (The path for this file should be /Users/*USERNAME*/Library/ApplicationSupport/SketchUp[Version Year]/login_session.dat)
    • To unhide the library folder, while in your username folder press Command, Shift and . (Full stop/period). The folder should be slightly greyed out.
  • For Windows users the file is located in C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp VERSION
    • AppData will be hidden, for Windows 11 select View > Show > Hidden Items.
    • For Windows 10 select View > Options > Change folder and search options. In the View tab > Advanced settings > Show hidden files, folders and drives > OK
