Why is SketchUp asking for a Passkey?

SketchUp is asking for a Passkey?

Recently we have had a few users report that SketchUp is asking for a Passkey and is looking for something to be in the USB port.

This is set up by Trimble and appears to be a change that those who used to have a mobile phone as their MFA (MultiFactor Authentication) are experiencing most.

The simplest fix is to turn it off. You may be able to access your SketchUp Profile without needing the MFA and then you can turn it off yourself.

However if you need the pass key to access your profile you will need to contact Trimble directly as they have the power to turn this off. Due to certain policies in place to protect users you need to make it very clear that you wish to have the MFA disabled on your account otherwise you may have an extra back and forth of them offering troubleshooting tips or asking for this permission, which with Trimble being based in the US every email counts.

To contact Trimble support you can either:
  1. Email support@trimble.com
  2. Visit https://help.sketchup.com/en/contact-support/technical-question/form and submit a report.

Ensure you are clear with your request and include enough detail that they can find your information easily.

If you would like to turn your MFA back on after this then you can do so in your SketchUp Profile and select a different method to the Passkey.
